TSMC Kumamoto plant commits to 100% renewable energy despite high costs

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (TSMC), the world’s largest semiconductor maker, has committed to using 100% renewable energy to power its facility in Kikuyo City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

For chipmakers that require constant use of large amounts of electricity, renewable energy is expensive — but TSMC continues to pursue decarbonization not only as part of its corporate responsibility but also in response to the needs of large customers.

In addition to TSMC, more and more companies in Kyushu are switching to renewable energy sources.
