Jacob Trouba Evaluates Rangers Offseason Acquisitions

The New York Rangers didn’t accomplish much in the offseason, but they still acquired Reilly Smith via trade and signed Sam Carrick.

Chris Kreider has already been full of praise for Smith and all he brings to the team, and it sounds like Jacob Trouba is also excited to welcome the veteran forward to New York.

“He’s a great player. Playing with him for a long time, you know how good he can be. Obviously I know Brendan. Everyone’s crossed paths with one of them at some point, I think. I met (Reilly) at the rink last week, a week and a half ago. He’s excited to be here. We’re excited to have him,” Trouba told The Athletic.

Smith is a player who brings Stanley Cup experience and an offensive spark to the Rangers’ starting six that could certainly serve them well.

Last season, playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins, the 33-year-old recorded 13 goals, 27 assists and 40 points in 76 games.

Trouba also spoke about Carrick, who is clearly also looking forward to playing with the 32-year-old center.

“Another good player. He made quite an impression at the end of last year. I reached out to him, said hello to him a little bit. I’ve heard a lot of good things about him, so he’ll be good for our team as well,” Trouba said.

Last season, Carrick scored 10 goals, six assists and 16 points in 77 games with the Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers.

The fact that Trouba has reached out to both Smith and Carrick speaks volumes about his leadership qualities and commitment to the team, despite all the transfer rumors that have come to light.

Trouba is a professional and it’s moments like these that show a man’s true character.
