As per the official announcement, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the UGC NET exam in June 2024 in 83 subjects between August 21 and September 4, 2024. The test will be conducted in CBT mode for the following purposes: (i) awarding research fellowships to junior researchers and appointing assistant professors, (ii) appointing assistant professors and admitting candidates to PhD programmes and (iii) admitting candidates to PhD programmes only.

NTA further announced that the notification regarding the city where the exam will be held will be released on the agency’s official websites ugcnet.nta.ac.in and nta.ac.in at least 10 days before the exam.

Notably, on June 18, the NTA had announced in a press release that it had successfully conducted the June UGC NET exam for 9.08 lakh candidates.

However, the next day the Ministry of Education announced that it had received information indicating a possible violation of the integrity of the exam, which led to its invalidation.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed that the question paper was leaked on the darknet. Earlier, NTA conducted UGC NET exam for the posts of Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and PhD in CBT mode.

However, the agency announced earlier this year that the June exam would be held on one day in paper-based mode.
