iPhone 16 set to launch in September, Apple Intelligence rollout delayed until October: Report

Traditionally, Apple introduces a new series of iPhones, powered by its version of iOS, in September. However, with reports suggesting that Apple’s AI features in iOS 18, also known as Apple Intelligence, aren’t ready for launch, there have been doubts as to whether the tech giant will follow that timeline for the iPhone 16 series later this year. As usual, Apple has been tight-lipped, but a new report sheds some light on the matter.

Apple won’t wait for new AI software features to be ready before the iPhone 16 launches, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Instead, the features could arrive in later updates in October.

Gurman claims that the iPhone 16 series should launch around the same time as its predecessor, pointing to a likely September 10 launch date for the smartphones.

It’s worth noting that Apple has previously delayed iPhone launches because software features weren’t ready yet. For example, the Cupertino tech giant delayed the launch of the iPhone 4s until October this year because the new Siri and iCloud weren’t ready by its June release date.

Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.1:

Gurman says the new Apple Intelligence (read: AI) features in iOS 18.1 will be ready to roll out around October. It’s worth noting that the iOS 18.1 developer beta, which gave a taste of some of these new AI features, was released by Apple last week.

The iOS 18.1 developer beta brought a slew of new features, including contextual awareness for Siri, automatic video creation in the Photos app, and advanced writing tools. Safari has also been enhanced with an AI-powered Summarize feature that provides concise summaries of web pages and articles.

However, much bigger improvements like ChatGPT integration, Genmoji, and Siri app control are yet to roll out and could be delayed until the end of this year or even next year.
