Google releases major security update for Chrome: Here’s how to update

Google has released an important security update for its Chrome browser. The update fixes two serious security vulnerabilities classified as high risk. One such vulnerability is CVE-2024-6990 – a memory flaw in the browser’s web graphics. The flaw can be exploited by a hacker to destabilize the victim’s computer and execute malicious code. Another vulnerability is related to the Dawn vulnerability, which concerns “insufficient data validation.”
Google has released stable version 127.0.6533.88/89 Google Chrome for Windows and Mac users. However, Google has not shared many details about this. In the Chrome release blog , Google explained that “access to bug details and links may be limited until most users receive an update with a fix. We will also maintain restrictions if the bug occurs in a third-party library that other projects depend on but that we have not yet fixed.”

In related news, Google is reportedly working on a long-awaited drag-and-drop feature for its Chrome browser on Android devices. The feature, a staple on desktop platforms, would allow users to seamlessly move files, images, and links between different apps and within the browser itself.
As reported by MSPoweruser, the feature will allow users to easily transfer files and content between different apps and within the browser itself. It is expected to debut in Chrome’s Dev Channel (version 129), and the feature is expected to be available for testing in the near future.
