Paris Olympics, what to watch: Imane Khelif to compete in boxing semi-final on Tuesday, August 6

Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who struggled with misconceptions about her gender, is returning to the ring. Athletics continues with several medal events. And the quarterfinals begin in men’s basketball on Tuesday at the Paris Olympics.

See the full schedule of events and learn more about what to watch below:

Khelif back in the ring

Khelif will fight Janjaem Suwannapheng of Thailand in the women’s 66kg semifinals at Roland Garros. If Khelif wins the fight, scheduled for 22:34 CEST/16:34 EDT, she will fight for the gold medal on Friday.

Khelif and fellow boxer Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan have been at the center of a row over gender identity and regulation in the sport since the Paris Games began. Critics pointed to their disqualification from last year’s world championships after the banned International Boxing Federation claimed they had failed unspecified qualifying tests for the women’s event.

The outcry erupted after Khelif won her first fight on Thursday. Her opponent, Angela Carini of Italy, tearfully pulled out of the fight after just 46 seconds.

Khelif, 25, has received an outpouring of support throughout her struggles but admitted going through the ordeal was painful for her and she faced venomous attacks online.

Her victory over Anna Luca Hamori of Hungary in the quarterfinals ensured her victory in the Olympic Games with at least a bronze medal.
