Sam Rudik, a recently promoted partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, has led Blackstone on several billion-dollar transactions over the past three years, including several major development deals and acquisitions involving data centers, earning him a spot among the real estate lawyers under 40 recognized by Law360 as Rising Stars.

The biggest deal of his career:

Rudik advised Blackstone on the matter $10 Billion Acquisition QTS Realty Trust, a real estate investment trust that operates data centers in the U.S. and the Netherlands. The 2021 deal saw the asset management giant acquire more than 7 million square feet of digital infrastructure real estate.

This acquisition marked the first time Rudik led a private takeover transaction as a senior partner.

“I managed a large team working on a very complex transaction,” Rudik said.

It was also one of his first deals in data centers, an asset class that, compared with offices or other building types, typically has unique lease structures and requires more infrastructure.

“Making a smart decision about a new asset class in the middle of a rapidly changing transaction was a challenge in itself,” he said.
