After Phones, Google Will Bring Gemini Assistant to Wireless Earbuds: Report | Technology News

Google could be bringing its AI-powered Gemini assistant to its wireless earbuds, as it continues to work on expanding the Gemini. Gemini, which launched on smartphones in February with a dedicated app, is set to make way for headphones and earphones as well. Now, 9to5Google has spotted Gemini on the earbuds’ branding in the latest version of the Google app.

The Google app’s code reportedly includes strings that read “Gemini on your earbuds.” According to 9to5Google, Google’s app 15.31 describes how users can “Talk to Gemini on your earbuds.” The latest beta update also includes the string, “Gemini is a new AI assistant on your tablet. Get help studying in new ways, planning events, writing thank-you notes, and more.” There were previously reports that users would be able to interact with Gemini on their earbuds/headphones using voice commands, and now it looks like that could soon become a reality. If so, Gemini will be able to answer questions verbally when users ask a question using the earbuds.

Gemini for the earbuds could be officially announced alongside the Pixel Buds Pro 2 at the Made by Google event on August 13. It is unclear whether the existing Assistant earbuds will get Gemini. Google previously confirmed that the Pixel Tablet will get Gemini.

Google has reportedly begun rolling out the new voice on a limited basis. The new voice is reportedly only visible in Gemini on Android, with no changes for the iOS app or web client. The new voice currently doesn’t offer an option to change the voice back in the settings, and that feature could be in development. Since Google’s AI chatbot launched, a male voice has been reading out responses, and it’s reported that activating Gemini on Android now reveals a female voice. Google is testing multiple voices for Gemini, and the new voice could be one of them.
