New transportation app gives Martin County parents peace of mind

With less than a week officially left until the start of the new school year for children in our region, school districts know how important it is to have contact with children while they are on school transportation.

And when it comes to student safety, it all starts on the way to school on the school bus. That’s why Martin County is the first county in our region to introduce a new transportation app.

The new app is called “MyReaXium.” It tracks school buses using GPS. This will allow parents to check if their child’s bus is on time or late. Once the child is on the bus and scans their student ID, the app logs that information in the app and lets parents know that their child is safe.

“MyReaXium” was created thanks to government funding.

You may be aware that Florida lawmakers passed a new law to change school start times that won’t go into effect until 2026.

The state gave the Martin County School District $60,000 for early adoption. The money went straight to transportation.

Superintendent Michael Maine says most of the calls the district’s transportation center has received have been from parents calling to ask if their child’s bus was on time. He says the app will help eliminate calls to the dispatch center so the lines stay open for real emergencies.

According to him, the most important thing is that the “MyReaXium” app will give parents peace of mind.

“If I’m a parent, and we all have busy lives, right? I’m running late for work, I’ve got a meeting, I have to get to the bus stop to pick up my kid. To be able to just pull out my phone, log into an app and say, ‘Hey, the bus is a few minutes late,’ it just makes me feel a little better. I don’t have to be there early. Or hey, the bus is on time, I have to make sure that someone is there to pick up my kid. It’s just an extra layer of, ‘I know what’s going on,’” Maine said.

Registration is easy!

Download the MyReaXium app to your phone for free. Once you have launched the app, follow these three simple steps:

– Verify your email address with your invite code

-Enter the code in the app to select your subscription plan

-Then you are ready to ride

From there, the district can send app notifications via email and text messages.

This is certainly a great tool that will give you an extra sense of security in the upcoming school year.
