App of the day: Trip Tunes

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Remember the days of mixtapes and mix CDs? Back in the 80s, you or someone you knew would almost always make a playlist of songs for the road. Back then, they weren’t called “playlists.” They were “mixtapes.”

Some (myself included) have even tried to time the perfect song to play while driving through the city. It wasn’t easy.

Creating the perfect road trip playlist used to be an art. But in today’s streaming world, the magic of mixtapes has faded, much like the cassette itself.

Enter Trip Tunes, a smartphone app that brings back the nostalgia of personalized mixes for your adventures. Here’s how it works:

1. Set a goal: Tell Trip Tunes where you’re starting from and where you’re going.

2. Select your music preferences: Choose your favorite music genres and define the mood of your trip (upbeat, nostalgic, etc.).

3. Let the magic happen: Trip Tunes’ clever bots will create a unique mix of songs tailored to your trip. Think of it as a personalized radio station for your journey.

4. Have a nice trip: The app even mimics the look of a classic mixtape, complete with handwritten song titles. Once you’re happy with your mix, export it as a playlist to Apple Music and hit the road.

The app was released in May for iPhone.

Trip Tunes is free to download and offers a few “tapes” to get you started. If you’re addicted, you can buy additional mixes for a small fee. 15 tapes for $2 or 30 tapes for $3.

Advantages:

Personalized playlists: Rediscover the joy of a perfectly composed set of ingredients for your journey.

Nostalgic mood: The app’s design and handwritten titles bring to mind the charm of mix tapes.

Easy to use: Simple interface and seamless integration with Apple Music.

Cons:

Limited availability: Currently only available to iPhone users with an Apple Music subscription.

Cost: While the app is free to use, additional mixes require purchase.

If you have an Apple Music subscription and are a music fan who appreciates a good mix or loves discovering songs and artists, Tape Tracks may be just what you’re looking for before your next tour.
