Two existing Alabama Workforce Boards merge to form the Alabama Workforce Board. Originating from the Alabama Workforce Council and the State Workforce Development Board, the Alabama Workforce Board and its Executive Committee.

Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed six commission members and more than 30 board members. These members will spearhead decisions about Alabama’s workforce.

“During my term as governor, no matter what we are trying to accomplish, I will ask what we can do today to set our state up for success in the future. Without a doubt, ensuring we have an adequately equipped workforce is critical as we try to fill jobs today – and in the future,” said Governor Ivey.

“I am proud to bring together a group of business and industry leaders from across our state to partner with us to advance our workforce development efforts,” Ivey said.

Alabama Power President and CEO Jeff Peoples has been named chairman of the Alabama Workforce Board Executive Committee. Webb Concrete President and CEO Phil Webb has been named chairman of the Alabama Workforce Board.

“Enabling Alabamians by providing them with valuable career opportunities and providing them with the necessary training and resources to get there helps strengthen our communities,” Peoples said.

“Today, Alabama is taking steps to reorient our state’s workforce development system to better serve people and grow our state. I am pleased to partner with Ivey and other state leaders in this effort,” Peoples said.

The Executive Committee will present the Alabama Workforce Development Program Plan and annual budget for workforce coordination.

“Increased industry engagement will strengthen our focus on workforce outcomes, creating more efficient use of state resources and better prospects for those served by the workforce development system,” Webb said. “I am excited to be a part of this new, streamlined approach to talent development in our Sweet Home of Alabama.”

Nominations will be effective from October 1.
