Grocery delivery app Zepto shifts HQ from Mumbai to Bengaluru: Report | Bengaluru

Quick commerce app Zepto is all set to shift its headquarters from Powai in Mumbai to Sarjapur in Bengaluru, according to Moneycontrol. The move is aimed at consolidating its operations and expanding its presence in the Indian tech hub.

Currently, Zepto, which delivers groceries, fruits, vegetables, electronics and other household items, has its business functions in Mumbai, while its technical and product teams are in Bengaluru. The company plans to bring together 1,700-1,800 employees under one roof, with mandatory relocation of staff by November-end or early December, a Zepto official told the publication.

Zepto will cover the relocation costs of the employees whose headcount is set to increase, which is estimated to cost the company between 3-4 crore. However, the company expects to compensate this expense by saving around Monthly rent is 40-50 lakhs, due to relocation from Mumbai to Bengaluru.

The startup is finalizing a large property in Sarjapur, HSR or Bellandur areas in Bellandur for relocation. Of the 1,700-1,800 employees, around 1,000 are based in Mumbai, 400 in Bengaluru and 300 elsewhere. Around 90 percent of the Mumbai-based employees are reportedly open to relocation, with only a small percentage potentially unable to relocate.

Zepto is confident that its growth trajectory and subsequent funding rounds will facilitate talent acquisition in Bengaluru. Notable entrepreneurs like Bhavish Aggarwal of Ola, Gaurav Munjal of Unacademy, Kunal Shah of CRED and Jitendra Gupta of Jupiter are some of the industry players who have moved from Mumbai to Bengaluru in recent years.
