These 7 Sports Moms Will Make the 2024 Paris Olympics a Family Affair

Minutes after the New Zealand rowing team won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, they picked up their children (born just a few months apart) for a celebration with a hug. “Raising kids is hard,” Francis said at the time. “It takes a village, and we had a village behind us the whole way. That just makes it even more special. Just the fact that our families are here, let alone our kids, and our kids get to see that legacy.”

Brittney Griner

Griner is likely the newest parent on this list, as she and her wife Cherelle welcomed their son, Bash, just a month ago on July 8. Griner noted that heading to Paris for the 2024 Olympics wasn’t an easy decision — “It kind of sucks because I have to go, but at the same time, he understands,” she recently said on the podcast — but hopefully Team USA’s spot in the Olympic quarterfinals will help sweeten the deal.

Nada Hafez

The 26-year-old Egyptian fencer competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics while seven months pregnant with her first child, calling herself “carrying a little Olympian inside me.” (Are you crying? Because we are.) “My baby and I have had our share of challenges, both physical and emotional,” Hafez wrote on Instagram. “Halloween while pregnant is hard enough on its own, but the struggle of balancing life and sports has been nothing short of exhausting, yet so worthwhile.”

While the highly decorated tennis star lost to German Angelique Kerber in the first round of the women’s singles tournament at the Paris Games, her biggest victory awaits her at home: Osaka’s one-year-old daughter, Shai. Last year, shortly after Shai’s arrival, Osaka said Fashion that her most anticipated aspect of parenthood was, “…just growing up together. Going through life together.”

Breanna Stewart

The Team USA power forward is more than just a star on the basketball court; in addition to playing for the New York Liberty, Stewart (nicknamed “Stewie”) is married to former WNBA and EuroLeague professional basketball player Marta Xargay Casademont, with whom he has two children, Ruby Mae Stewart-Xargay and Theo Josep Stewart Xargay. “Ruby, Theo, Marta, the whole gang is coming to Paris,” Stewart said of her family in June, adding, “I’m excited for everyone to be a part of it and have fun with me.” I hope this sweet family got a ton of stuffed Ellies as baby gifts!
