How is it possible that this customer purchased a $2,300 refrigerator at Lowe’s for $169?

Last month, Lowe’s experienced a glitch that caused the price of a large $2,300 Midea refrigerator to drop to just $169.

TikTok user @loungeprofit scours the internet for the best deals, and this one is no exception. In a slideshow with over 131,000 views, the content creator revealed screenshots of a glitch on the Lowe’s website, sent in by one of his members.

The first photo was of a Midea large-capacity stainless steel refrigerator on Lowe’s. These refrigerators typically retail for $2,399. However, the slideshow includes a screenshot showing the price as $169.

Then a second slide showed the member’s total order for the fridge, shipping, and tax. That still came to less than $300. The final image showed the fridge, which he received within minutes.

This is not the first defect of Lowe’s household appliances

Viewers were also able to find great deals on Lowe’s appliances thanks to glitches and errors.

“They accidentally gave us 2 washers and a dryer when we only ordered one of each. We returned the excess,” one viewer shared.

“I bought this Samsung with a screen for 1100 because it had a tiny dent, Lowe’s was the scapegoat,” recalled the second.

“I ordered a built in 1300 grill for 249 because they messed up the website. Then I had to build an outdoor kitchen for it,” a third user commented.

Is the fridge still $169?

No, it’s not. However, the price is still under $2,300, with the new promotional price being $1,599 until August 7.

Luckily for them, @loungeprofit and its members purchased their refrigerators before Lowe’s fixed the glitch.

How do prices change on the Internet?

Generally speaking, this can happen due to several factors, such as human error, software updates, and coupon or promo code errors. “When an item’s price is significantly lower than its actual market value or selling price, it can be said to be a pricing error. However, in the e-commerce sense, a pricing error can occur despite the seller’s vigilance. While manual pricing is prone to human error, there have been cases where the pricing issue was caused by the e-commerce system/platform,” according to Seller Snap.

This happened to a Target customer a few years ago. The TikToker found a “crazy glitch” that allowed him to buy the tablet for just $59. Some users said it only happens to them when they’re at work and can’t take advantage of the deal.
