Trump’s US Bitcoin Stockpile Plan Raises Concerns among Forfeiture Experts

Donald TrumpThe US president’s campaign promise to create a national bitcoin reservoir using the US government’s cryptocurrency has alarmed former prosecutors who said the move would allow the diversion of confiscated digital assets that would otherwise be used to compensate crime victims.

If elected president, the United States would keep all bitcoin the government owns or acquires, turning “this enormous wealth into a permanent national asset that will benefit all Americans,” Trump said at the Bitcoin 2024 conference on July 27.
