During a visit to the United States, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and World Bank President Ajay Banga held talks and decided to chalk out a roadmap for cooperation on several fronts and projects, the Prime Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the release, potential partnership areas outlined in the analysis and considerations would include initiatives on skills development, urban renewal and reimagining, Net Zero development, citizen healthcare, diagnostics and electronic records, to name a few.

During a meeting lasting over an hour between the World Bank chief and the prime minister and his team, a decision was made to create a cross-functional team to develop conceptual projects in each area in an accelerated manner. People, planet, sustainability, health, skills and jobs were the main topics of discussion between the two leaders.

The World Bank’s support would provide a huge boost to several key visions of Chief Minister Revant Reddy, including Musi River Rejuvenation Project, Skill University, Future City, Citizen Healthcare and development of Hyderabad 4.0, the CMO said.

“The World Bank, expressing excitement and optimism about the sustainable vision of the Chief Minister of Telangana and Hyderabad, highlighted how the bank has been successful in generating positive outcomes in the region through several earlier project initiatives. It has also shown keen interest in supporting the vision of creating a Net Zero city,” the CMO said in a release.

Chief Minister Reddy expressed his delight after officially supporting several key initiatives of the state and promised to ensure that every project is monitored in line with the mission to ensure ambitious impact and results, but with utmost transparency.

For the first time, the Telangana state has decided to explore collaboration with any of the Bretton Woods institutions. The Telangana team presented an overview of several other developments that affect the lives and livelihoods of citizens, the environment and sustainable development in the state.

The meeting was attended by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, Telangana Chief Secretary A Shanta Kumari and other officials including Jayesh Ranjan, Ramakrishna Rao, V. Sheshadri, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy and Ajith Reddy.

World Bank Executive Director Parameswaran (“Param”) Iyer, who also participated in the discussions, lauded the Telangana government for its holistic, balanced, sustainable and effective vision, putting the welfare of the state and people first, the CMO added.
