Doom and Doom 2 will receive improved versions

A leaked Steam page suggests that enhanced versions of Doom and Doom 2 will be sold in one package.

This morning, Steam announced that Doom and Doom 2 will be receiving enhanced versions in a single product bundle.

The leak was first spotted by Wario64 on Platform X, with the popular account posting screenshots from the Steam page as well as a trailer for the enhanced versions.

Currently, the Enhanced Versions page on Steam is simply the Doom and Doom 2 page, which still lists the April 30, 1995 release date. However, if you read it carefully, you’ll notice that the page has been, um… improved.

You can also find a long list of features and new improvements on the Steam page, which includes the following:

  • Online, cross-platform deathmatch and co-op for up to 16 players
  • Support for community-published mods via the in-game mod browser
  • Choose between original midi soundtracks from DOOM and DOOM II games or modern IDKFA versions by Andrew Hulshult (including all-new recordings from DOOM II)
  • Improved performance with multi-threaded rendering supporting up to 4K resolution
  • Now in KEX engine
  • BOOM source compatibility allows hundreds of community-created mods from the last 25 years to be published in-game
  • Accessibility features like modern font for improved readability, high contrast mode, text-to-speech, multi-person chat with speech-to-text, and more
  • Translated into 8 new languages: Mexican Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese

This leak coincides with the start of QuakeCon 2024 and is sure to please long-time fans of the historic FPS series.
