James: City needs to change sign regulations

Boe James | Fountain Hills

Early on the Saturday before the primary, a city code enforcement officer removed several political signs directly in front of my house. When I asked about them, I was told that Sunridge Drive, as well as Golden Eagle, El Lago, and several other residential streets, had been designated “no sign zones” by the city council.

I asked Code Enforcement about this situation and was told that no signs means no signs, whether political, garage sale, or even open house or real estate sale signs. I feel the city is restricting my (and everyone else’s) right to freely speak my mind on political and other issues.

I hereby call on the city council to remove the sign-free zone from all residential streets in Fountain Hills.
