Street lights soon on key SPR links in new sectors of Gurgaon

GURGAON: Seven key arterial stretches in new sectors along Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) will soon be illuminated as GMDA plans to install 770 intelligent street lighting In second phase their project.
In the second phase, covering a stretch of 11.5 km, smart streetlights will be installed along seven sector roads, including sectors 70A, 71-74, 75A-76, Outer Road 77, 78-79, Outer Road 79 and 79B.
GMDA officials said the estimated cost of the second phase is Rs 6.59 crore and the tender for the project has been floated. “These smart street lights come with advanced features like auto dimming, remote monitoring and energy saving features. They will make the roads safer for both pedestrians and vehicles at night,” the official said.
The smart street lights will be managed remotely via a cloud app that will be connected to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). Officials will have full control over the operation of these lights, including mapping their GPS coordinates, monitoring their status and tracking them in real time.
“These lights can automatically adjust their brightness based on the presence of pedestrians or vehicles, reducing power consumption during periods of low activity. An alarm will be triggered in case of a fault or vandalism, so that any issues on the ground can be detected and resolved quickly,” explained a senior official from the GMDA’s electrical department.
Meanwhile, the first phase of smart street lighting installation is underway. Around 835 smart street lights are being installed in sectors 68 to 80 along the main roads dividing the sectors. Residents have expressed the opinion that the installation of street lights is long overdue.
