Seattle Mariners Bring Back Fan-Favorite Rookie in Latest Lineup Change

SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners have had too many roster changes to count in the past month due to injuries, trades, reassignments and a host of other transactions.

The Mariners will likely continue that strategy as multiple players recover from injuries. But on Wednesday — Seattle decided to re-sign a fan-favorite rookie to give the team another look.

Seattle brought back infielder Ryan Bliss from the Tacoma Rainiers, the team’s Triple-A affiliate, and sent outfielder Cade Marlowe back to Tacoma as part of a corresponding roster shakeup.

This will be Bliss’ second stint with the Mariners this season. Bliss averaged .220 in 59 at-bats in 31 games during his first stint from May 27 to July 22. During his time there, he had a home run, a triple, three doubles and seven RBIs.

Bliss has 16 hits in 12 games since returning to Tacoma. He has had at least two hits in five of those games and at least three in two of those games.

Marlowe was called up to Seattle on July 23 and went 2-for-8 (.250) in eight games with the team. It was Marlowe’s second stint with the Mariners. He played in 34 games with the team in 2023 and had a .239 average with three home runs and 11 RBI.

Bliss didn’t see much consistent playing time during his first stint in Seattle this season, often being used in pinch-running situations due to his speed.

The Mariners have had several players dealing with nagging ailments and have used pinch hitters several times to give them some rest. Bliss could get more playing time this time around to help some of those players get some rest when needed.
