Prime Minister approves launch of ‘easy to do business’ initiative

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the launch of the largest-ever ease of doing business reform programme in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister expressed his agreement while chairing a meeting on Ease of Doing Business in Islamabad today.

The programme also approved the creation of the first digital register of Pakistan’s laws and regulations aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and investment.

Speaking on this occasion, the Prime Minister thanked the international organizations for their interest in financing this project. The Prime Minister instructed the international organizations that expressed interest in financing the project to finalize the agreement.

The Prime Minister instructed the relevant authorities and ministries to ensure timely practical implementation of policy measures in this area. He appointed a special commission to implement the project.

The first phase of the project will see the start of reforms in key sectors. The Prime Minister especially thanked Dr. Scott Jacob for his work on the project.

The meeting was briefed about the details of the project as well as the timeline for its implementation. It was informed that the registry will consolidate and digitalize all existing laws and regulations regarding investments in the country. All unnecessary rules and regulations that hinder investments and business activities in the country will be abolished. It was informed that digitalization will reduce the time required for registration, permits and other necessary steps by removing bureaucratic hurdles.

This initiative will not only facilitate investment and business activity, but will also initiate the rapid development of the private sector in the country.
