Kaspersky Lab records double the number of infected smart devices in Russia – Society & Culture

MOSCOW, August 9. /TASS/. The number of infected smart devices in Russia, illegally used by criminals as part of botnets to further attacks, has more than doubled over the year, Kaspersky Lab reported to TASS.

Botnets are networks of devices that are illegally and often covertly accessed to conduct cyberattacks and other malicious activities.

Kaspersky Lab received such dynamics by comparing the first six months of 2023 and 2024. The cybersecurity provider gave examples of gadgets that could be vulnerable to criminal attacks. These could be ordinary smart cameras or advanced industrial devices.

Weak passwords are enough for hackers to break into these types of IoT-based devices. Both personal and corporate gadgets can be vulnerable to attacks.
