The chief advisor to the caretaker government will oversee 27 ministries and departments while advisor Md Nahid Islam has been assigned the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiya will oversee the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The division of ministries in the caretaker government was revealed in a circular issued today (August 9) by the Cabinet Department.

Advisor Saleh Uddin Ahmed took up duties at the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning.

Dr Asif Nazrul took over as Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Advisor Hasan Arif was entrusted with the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives while Md Touhid Hossain was entrusted with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan took over as Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Sharmin S Murshid as Minister of Social Welfare.

Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain will head the Ministry of Interior and Dr AFM Khalid Hossain will head the Ministry of Religious Affairs.


Farida Akhtar took over as Minister of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, and Mizu Nurjahan Begum as Minister of Health and Social Welfare.

Nobel Prize winner Dr Muhammad Yunus was sworn in yesterday (8 August) as Chief Advisor to the new caretaker government of Bangladesh.

The ceremony was attended by leaders of various political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiyo Party and Krishak Sramik Janata League.

In addition, the event was attended by more than five hundred people, including the head of the army, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, as well as other officers, secretaries of various ministries and diplomats from different countries.
