Dodge’s new Charger EV muscle car features Donut Mode and a V8 rumble

Dodge has revealed new details and pricing for its highly anticipated 2024 Charger electric muscle car.

The Stellantis subsidiary announced that the Charger Daytona EV will be available in showrooms by the end of 2023 in two variants: Daytona R/T and Daytona Scat Pack.

“The future of the Dodge brand starts with the two-model, two-door 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona that looks, drives, sounds and feels like a Dodge, outperforming the legendary models it replaces and delivering the experience the Dodge Brotherhood of Muscle expects,” Dodge brand CEO Matt McAlear said in a press release.

The base R/T version will have 420 horsepower and will cost $59,595, while the Scat Pack will have 670 horsepower from the factory and a more expensive version will cost $73,190.

All EV versions of the Charger will be equipped with a 100.5 kWh battery, standard all-wheel drive and a mechanical limited slip differential.

The Daytona R/T is expected to travel 317 miles on a single charge, while the Scat Pack should have 260 miles of all-electric range, Dodge says, noting that each should be able to charge from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes using a fast charger.

Dodge’s new Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system can also be found on all Charger versions. In other words: artificial engine sounds.

While it is common today to use artificial engine sounds transmitted through a speaker system, Fratzonic takes this to a whole new level.

The software uses a series of vibration chambers and a 600-watt amplifier to mimic the rumble of a traditional V8 engine. The V8 sounds change based on throttle input and drive mode, Dodge says.

Some of the goodies are reserved for the pricey Scat Pack, including red Brembo brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes and an adaptive dual-damping suspension.

The Scat Pack also gains access to special software features that help the Charger perform on race tracks and drag strips.

These include Donut Mode, which spins only the rear wheels to make it easier to drive in circles, Drift Mode, which directs power to help the driver take corners sideways, and Line Lock, which locks the front wheels to allow the driver to warm up the rear tires with a smoking fire.

The four-door and combustion version of the new Charger will appear in 2025.

Dodge is expected to begin production of the electric four-door version in the first half of 2025.

Additionally, in the second half of next year, Dodge will begin production of an internal combustion version of the Charger under the name Dodge Charger SIXPACK.

The Charger SIXPACK will have Stellantis’ 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engine under its hood. That engine will be shared with the Charger’s corporate siblings, such as the Jeep Grand Wagoneer SUV.

The most powerful version of the Charger with this engine is expected to have 550 horsepower.

All Charger models will be manufactured at the Stellantis assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
