Indy restaurant appears on food delivery apps without consent – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A restaurant in Northeast Indianapolis says its menu is being displayed without its consent on third-party food delivery apps like DoorDash, GrubHub and Uber Eats.

A2Z Café owner Gina Rosenow says the problem has existed since delivery apps emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic, but it’s only recently become noticeable. Often, disgruntled app delivery people come to a restaurant expecting to pick up a meal, only to have the order never arrive at the restaurant.

According to Rosenow, their menu and prices are displayed incorrectly in the app.

“We don’t have online service,” Rosenow said. “I have no idea where that goes. I have no idea how they paid for it, if they paid, or if it says pay here at the restaurant.”

Customers appear even more often than suppliers.

They often show up after ordering a meal through an app and expect a short wait. When Rosenow or one of her employees explains to a customer that someone has fraudulently listed their restaurant on the app, they often don’t have enough time for the restaurant to actually prepare their food.

“The last one ordered for seven people,” Rosenow said. “They couldn’t wait for us to cook what they thought was five minutes.”

The restaurant says there are several reasons why it has decided not to sign a contract with delivery apps. One of the main reasons for this decision is to make sure that every meal meets its standards and does not arrive cold.

She added that she has tried to contact each of the app’s headquarters to resolve the issue but is often unable to speak to someone who can help.

“Every time we’ve done this, we’ve followed procedure, and sometimes it just throws us for a loop,” Rosenow said. “I just want a real person. Give me a real person, stop it, and that’s it.”

To place a takeaway order at A2Z, customers should call the store and pick up their order.
