Planned solar power plant along Bundelkhand road

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh to get first solar powered expressway in the country. A total of 1,500 acres along the Bundelkhand Expressway have been identified for the project.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) on Friday organised a stakeholder consultation meeting which was attended by two dozen companies. Principal Secretary and CEO of UPEIDA Manoj Kumar Singh answered questions from the participants to explain the authority’s vision of setting up the project, which has the potential to supply 450 megawatts of electricity. Renewable energysufficient to meet the daily needs of 60,000 households.
Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Nandi assured the group of private executives that the government was working on their suggestions to make the project financially viable. The proposal for setting up the project would be submitted to the Cabinet for approval and then a global bidding process would be initiated.
To launch the project through private participation, an investment of Rs 25 billion will be required.
UP Power Corporation Limited Chairman Ashish Kumar Goel told the directors that they need to prepare a power purchase agreement, considering that UP requires more electricity during the night. “Storage of power generated during the day would have to be planned accordingly. Currently, we are dealing with 30,000 megawatts of peak demand and the difference between day and night demand could be up to 10,000 megawatts,” Goel said.
Additional executive director of the body SP Shahi said, “We have ensured that the assets, equipment and machinery prepared for the project are safe from theft. A three-tier security structure will be ensured,” Shahi added.
