WhatsApp will soon show you business accounts with a blue badge

WhatsApp is following the same path as other Meta-owned apps that offer a blue badge for verified accounts, and the messaging app will offer it to business profiles.

WhatsApp is planning another interface change. The messaging app is set to improve its verification system, replacing the current green badge with a blue checkmark for verified businesses and channels. The change is in line with Meta’s broader strategy to unify the visual appearance of verified accounts across all platforms, including Instagram, X, and Facebook, increasing user trust and authenticity.

WhatsApp now appears to be offering iOS users the opportunity to experiment with a new checkmark, similar to the one already available for Android users.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo reports that the messaging app has switched to a blue checkmark for channel and business verification to better align with Meta’s visual branding. This update replaces the old green badge, providing a more unified look across platforms and increasing user trust. The blue checkmark ensures authenticity, protecting users from potential impersonation and making it easier to safely interact with verified businesses and channels.

Users can easily identify verified accounts with a consistent visual identity across Meta platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, promoting trust and familiarity. This unified strategy improves brand recognition by allowing users to identify real accounts and engage with confidence. For now, this feature is only available to users who install the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for iOS from the TestFlight app, but it will be rolling out to more people in the coming weeks.

The move could also be seen as a response to Meta Verified, a tool unveiled two months ago by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and now available to select companies in some markets.

Meta rolled out Meta AI across all platforms, including WhatsApp, in June. The company said its Meta AI can help users with their daily routines, learning, and creative endeavors. Meta AI, which was first showcased at last year’s Meta Connect and is powered by the latest Llama 3 technology, has been rolling out globally since April and is now available for users in India.
