Paint 3D for Windows 10 and 11 to be discontinued

Microsoft is officially discontinuing its Paint 3D app, a tool introduced in 2016 as a 3D extension of the classic Paint app. Initially launched to allow users to create and edit 3D models on Windows 10, Paint 3D never gained the wide popularity Microsoft had hoped.

Microsoft Ends Paint 3D: Changing Approach to Creative Tools

The decision to discontinue Paint 3D comes after years of declining user interest. In 2021, Microsoft took the first step by removing Paint 3D from the list of startup apps in Windows 10. Despite being available for download through the Microsoft Store on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, the app has struggled to build a significant user base, especially compared to the long-running 2D Paint app, which remains a staple for millions of users.

News of the week from Gizchina

As of November 4, Paint 3D will no longer be available to download or receive updates. Microsoft has also announced that support for the app will cease completely after that date. While this move may disappoint some users, it’s not entirely unexpected. Microsoft is gradually shifting its focus back to improving the original Paint app. Integrating new features like AI, resizable drawing tools, and updated pen and eraser options.

The end of Paint 3D marks the end of Microsoft’s attempts to transform traditional 2D graphics into 3D with that particular application. Instead, the company seems to be prioritizing the development of its classic Paint software. It continues to evolve and adapt to modern user needs.

As Microsoft retires Paint 3D, users are left to reflect on the app’s history. While the concept of the 3D Paint tool was innovative, it ultimately failed to resonate with the general public. With Paint 3D now a part of history, Microsoft will likely continue to focus on improving and expanding the capabilities of its core Paint app.
