Former YouTube CEO and Google CEO Susan Wojcicki dies at age 56

Former YouTube CEO and longtime Google employee Susan Wojcicki has died at the age of 56, her husband announced.

Dennis Troper wrote on social media: “My beloved wife of 26 years and mother of our five children left us today after two years of living with non-small cell lung cancer.

“Susan was not only my best friend and life partner, but also a brilliant mind, a loving mother and a close friend to many people.”

No other details about her death were released.

Ms Wojcicki, who played a key role in the founding of Google, stepped down as YouTube chief in 2023 after nine years at the helm of the video service that transformed entertainment, culture and politics.

Shortly after Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin turned their search engine into a company in 1998, Ms. Wojcicki rented them a garage at her home in Menlo Park, California, for $1,700 a month.

Ms. Wojcicki and Mr. Troper’s son, 19-year-old Marco Troper, died in February on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a student.
