Why I’m not giving up on value stocks

A little over a year ago, I wrote that value stocks are making a comeback. After lagging growth stocks for over a decade, value stocks beat growth in 2022 and have begun to dominate.

But I got ahead of myself. Over the past 12 months, the S&P 500 Value index did well, returning 15.3%, but the S&P 500 Growth index did much better, gaining 32.5%. The Russell 1000 Value index, which is calculated differently and includes midsize stocks, did even worse than the Russell 1000 Growth index, returning 13.1% compared with 33.5% for Growth. (Returns and other data are as of June 30; stocks I like appear in bold.)
