IIM-C launches centre of excellence

Kolkata: IIM-Kolkata launched center of excellence IN enterprise AND innovation and exchanged ideas on the areas of work the centre will focus on in the future after the inauguration of a two-day meeting titled “India 2047: Building the Future through Entrepreneurship”, which began on Saturday at the Joka campus.
Establishment of “Lalit Mohanka & Madan Mohanka The Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation was funded by industrialist Madan Mohanka. “The mission of the centre will be to create entrepreneurial ecosystems that promote sustainable economic growth and job creation. I have given Rs 1 crore as a start,” Mohanka said.
The national conference brought together a group of visionaries, innovators, leaders and IIM-C alumni from various sectors to discuss and explore the future of entrepreneurship in India and beyond. CMD Lemon Tree Hotels, also an IIM-C alumnus, Patanjali G Keswani delivered the inaugural address virtually.
He spoke about his career in Tata Administrative Services after graduating from IIM-C in 1983 and after 15 years, he rose to the top as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Taj Group of Hotels. In 2002, he began his entrepreneurial journey by founding Lemon Tree Hotels.
IIM-C Director Saibal Chattopadhyay said, “The event will discuss ideas and highlight how the core sectors of manufacturing, services, e-commerce, along with emerging sectors of HealthTech, EdTech, AgriTech, FinTech, AI can leverage advances to drive business, policy and practice. It will also help us define the direction of work for the centre.”
