Police issue 967 summonses as part of integrated traffic operations in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 967 summonses were issued for various offences following an integrated traffic operation conducted at several locations across the city.

Kuala Lumpur Police Deputy Chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said a total of 2,397 vehicles were checked during the operation, which lasted from 11am on Saturday (August 10) to 5am on Sunday (August 11).

“We confiscated 29 cars with illegal modifications.

“A total of eight people were arrested for testing positive for drugs, while 13 others were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol,” he told reporters at the scene on Sunday morning.

The operation, which was led by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), also involved officers and staff from the Drug Crime Investigation Department (NCID), Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Department of Environment (DOE).

Police Chief Azry said the main objective of the operation is to check vehicles and drivers to ensure they comply with traffic rules.

“The operation is carried out in the city every week in response to complaints from residents about loud exhausts and dangerous stunts performed by some road users.

“The DoE conducted exhaust sound inspections and discovered that several motorcycles had been illegally modified,” he said.

He appealed to the public to obey traffic laws, not modify vehicles in an illegal manner and not engage in illegal activities on the road.

“We appeal to the public to always follow the instructions of the authorities, including stopping vehicles when passing through roadblocks.

“Any motorcyclist performing dangerous stunts on the road will be arrested and charged under the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Several motorcyclists were also spotted driving against traffic to avoid roadblocks.

Some even stopped at nearby points to avoid inspection by the authorities.

The operation was carried out at several locations including Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Bangsar.

Also present were KL JSPT Deputy Director Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa and KL JPJ Deputy Director Erick Jusiang.
