Let’s give President Ruto a chance to work – Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has appealed to Kenyans to give President William Ruto a chance to implement his plan for the country.

Speaking in Sagan on Saturday, Gachagua said their administration had encountered some difficulties but they had been resolved.

He noted that after some Kenyans filed complaints and made “noise”, the president dismissed the entire cabinet and appointed it anew.

The vice president said that during the cabinet reshuffle, he invited people from the opposition so that, if necessary, a conversation could be held within the government.

Tumekuwa na matatizo kidogo naomba watu wangu huyu Rais tumpatie nafasi. Juzi watu wamepiga kelele ameweka baraza la mawaziri wapya. Hata hawa akina (Hassan) Joho walikuwa ODM wakute tuwaoneshe kazi. Rais amesema hakuna kuongea huko nje kuja tuongee tukiwa ndani“- said Gachagua.

This loosely translates to “We have had some challenges; I ask you, my people, to give the president a chance to work. People have been making noise lately. He appointed a new cabinet. Even people like Joho were in ODM, they came, we showed them the job. The president said there is no question of outside talks, let’s talk while we are in government.”

The DP spoke during a stopover in Sagan where he accompanied President William Ruto on a development tour of Kirinyaga County.

Gachagua also confirmed in his speech that The Mount Kenya region strongly supports the President and has appealed to political leaders to desist from statements aimed at dividing the people.

“I saw some people trying to start a debate that the people of Mt Kenya cannot leave the government. Is such a debate necessary? Isn’t this our government? Didn’t we wake up early to vote for it?” he posed.

He also called on political leaders to focus on working for the people who voted for them.

“Don’t bring in politics of confusion. As a region, we fully support Ruto and as deputy president, I work well with him. The leaders should focus on the job they were elected to do. Let the president and his deputy play the leading role they should,” Gachagua said.
