Why Olympic bronze medalist Sarabjot Singh decided to turn down a government job offer

Indian shooting ace Sarabjot Singh has revealed the main reason behind his decision to reject a government job offer after winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Sarabjot was partnered with Manu Bhaker and the duo secured third place in the 10m air pistol team event. The 22-year-old also came close to reaching the medal round of the individual event but lost by a whisker.

The bronze medal in the mixed team event certainly made up for it as Sarabjot’s performance was praised by fans and critics alike. After he returned home from the Games, the Haryana government decided to offer him a job as a token of appreciation. However, Sarabjot chose to politely decline it. The shooter told reporters that he would not accept it now as he wanted to focus on shooting. Sarabjot said he did not want to go against the decisions he had made now.

“The job is good but I won’t take it up now. I want to focus on shooting first,” Sarabjot told reporters.

“My family has also asked me to find a decent job, but I want to continue shooting. I don’t want to go against the decisions I have made, so I can’t take up a job now,” he said.

Sarabjot’s 2028 goal in Los Angeles

Sarabjot’s dedication towards shooting was evident during an exclusive interaction with India Today when he said that his ultimate goal is yet to be achieved. Sarabjot said that he aims to shoot for gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“I haven’t achieved my main goal yet. I hope to achieve it in 2028. I had written in my diary once that I would give my all in Paris. But I haven’t given my all yet. I want to win gold in 2028,” Sarabjot told India Today.
