After nearly three weeks of incredible sporting events, Paris is set to bring down the curtain on the 2024 Summer Olympics on Sunday with a star-studded closing ceremony that could outshine the lavish opening spectacle.

The first part of Sunday’s ceremony will be dedicated to the host city, with iconic French bands Phoenix and Air performing in what director Thierry Reboul has described as a “science fiction”-themed production.

In keeping with tradition, the second part of the ceremony will be dedicated to the handover of power to the hosts of the next Summer Olympics, with the torch being passed to Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics.

Early reports of superstars Taylor Swift and Beyonce attending the event have not yet been confirmed, but several big names have been revealed for the segment, which is expected to be 15 minutes long and feature live broadcast elements.

How to Watch the Olympic Closing Ceremony Anywhere with a VPN

If you can’t watch the Olympic closing ceremony locally, you may need another way to watch the games — that’s where a VPN comes in. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on match day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a great idea if you’re traveling and connected to Wi-Fi and want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you can virtually change your location on your phone, tablet, or laptop to access the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make this really easy.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK, and Canada, as long as you have a legal subscription to the service you’re streaming. Make sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even if VPNs are legal, the streaming service can still terminate the account of anyone it believes circumvents properly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick Tips for Streaming the 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony with a VPN

  • There are four variables that affect the quality and success of your Olympics live stream – your ISP, browser, video streaming provider, and VPN.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default ExpressVPN option, try using the “search for a city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble watching the Olympics after enabling your VPN and setting it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try to quickly fix it. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered to your account is in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address registered to your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps that you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll need to install your VPN on the router or mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network will now be shown in the correct viewing area.
  • All of our recommended VPN providers have helpful instructions on their home page for quickly installing a VPN on your router. In some cases, when you install the cable sports network app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, as both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • Keep in mind that browsers can often give away your location even if you’re using a VPN, so make sure you’re using a browser that puts privacy first to log into its services. We typically recommend Brave.
