Heavy rains lash parts of Gurugram, causing flooding and traffic disruption

Gurugram (Haryana) (India), August 11 (ANI): Gurugram was hit by heavy rains on Sunday, causing massive flooding and traffic jams in many parts of the city.

Key areas including the Gurugram-Delhi Expressway and many other metro lines were severely affected, disrupting normal life of commuters.

The district administration said Gurugram had received 53 mm of rainfall till 8.30 am, which resulted in water accumulation in many sectors and on major roads. Some areas also recorded over 80 mm of rainfall.

Commuters were seen wading through waterlogged roads as heavy rains lashed several parts of the city. Visuals from IFFCO Chowk area show vehicles plying through flooded roads. Severe waterlogging was also witnessed in Gurugram Sector 5.

People commuting to work navigated flooded streets as rainfall continued to drench the city.

With the metro and underpasses closed to non-motorised transport (NMT) and pedestrians, residents had no choice but to stay at home and change their plans for the weekend.

Meanwhile, heavy rains also lashed parts of Ambala city on Sunday. IMD Regional Centre New Delhi also predicted moderate to heavy rains accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of Haryana.

According to IMD, Haryana is expected to experience intermittent heavy rainfall till August 14.

“Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with a very high probability of occasional heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh during 10th-16th; Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Western Uttar Pradesh on 10th, 11th and 14th-16th; Punjab on 10th and 11th; Haryana-Chandigarh on 10th, 11th and 14th August,” the IMD said in a press release.

The national capital also witnessed heavy rains on Sunday. Due to incessant rainfall in the capital city of Delhi, several areas of the city faced flooding. (ANI)
