On the Hunt: Hunting Licenses Now Available for Sale

Yesterday, Saskatchewan Big Game Draw and regular hunting licenses became available for purchase. Licenses can be purchased in person, over the phone, or through the Saskatchewan Government’s Hunting, Angling, and Trapping online system.

Hunters can obtain information on hunting zones, hours and other rules and regulations before heading out to the hunt by purchasing a Saskatchewan Hunter’s Guide or Trapper’s Guide. Hunters can download a copy of the guides at saskatchewan.ca/hunting or pick up printed copies at Government of Saskatchewan field offices with counter service, select retailers and some provincial parks.

“The Saskatchewan Trappers Guide is now a standalone document designed to provide trappers with the specific information they need. Both the Trappers Guide and Hunters Guide include extensive lists of season dates, important information on regulations, licenses and fees, and highlights of new features for 2024, including expanded opportunities to hunt dusky geese,” the government said on its website.

Hunters need to be aware of the permits needed to hunt on private land. About 85% of the land in southern Saskatchewan is privately owned. Obtaining a permit has become easier because you can request one in person, by phone or by email. Permission to hunt can be given verbally, in writing or by signs.

Hunters will need to ensure they have HAL accounts ready when purchasing a license. Information on HAL accounts can be obtained by visiting saskatchewanhal.ca or calling 1-888-773-8450.
