Worcestershire’s on-demand bus service expands across the county

Worcestershire has expanded its bus service, based on demand rather than fixed routes and timetables.

Earlier this year the service was developed with the Malvern Hills district in mind and now covers areas including Beckett’s Farm, Princess of Wales Community Hospital, Attwell Farm Park and Lickey Hills Country Park.

Since its launch, the scheme has made 65,000 journeys, which Worcestershire County Council says is a “huge success”.

Bradley Thomas, MP for Bromsgrove, said the service would protect rural communities by “strengthening the rural economy”.

“Providing better connections to train and bus stations will help people not only get around the county but also the country,” he said.

The service currently reaches locations including Malvern Hospital, Malvern Railway Station, the Museum of Transport and Malvern Retail Park.

Bookings for the service can be made via the Worcestershire on Demand app. There is a flat fee of £2.50 for the first person in your group, and £1.25 for each additional person.

Buses run from Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The council added that any assistance in using the app will be available from local libraries.

Councillor Marc Bayliss said: “We know it is important for our residents to have choice and flexibility when travelling around the county and this enhanced service provides just that.

“This service is a key part of our mission to make bus travel safer in Worcestershire,” he said.
