The ranking evaluates educational institutions over the past nine years on five broad parameters, including teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusiveness, and perceptions.

This year, three new categories were introduced, bringing the total number to 16.

Higher education institutions are divided into 16 categories: general universities, medical schools, engineering schools, management schools, law schools, architecture schools, research institutions, pharmacy, dentistry, agriculture and related sectors, innovation, state universities, open universities and vocational universities.

This year’s NIRF was attended by 10,885 higher education institutions.

(NIRF) is a ranking methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education for ranking higher education institutions in India in 2015.

The Core Committee has developed a methodology for ranking of institutes established by MHRD to determine general parameters for ranking of various universities and institutions.
