Nwifuru warns LG chairmen against spending funds on empowerment in Abakaliki

Nwifuru issued the warning on Sunday in Abakaliki during a church service at the Government House Chapel Abakaliki. He warned those sabotaging government contracts in their various localities to desist immediately.

He asked the city unions and other key bodies in the community development process to supervise the work in their areas in accordance with government guidelines.

“If you are a coordinator or a local government chairman and you live in Abakaliki and you rarely come to the village, do not expect people to follow you.

“You must act in the interest of the people. Our youth need your attention.

“As a coordinator you should implement a project worth not less than ₦10 million per month and chairpersons should implement a project worth not less than ₦20 million per month” he said.

The governor praised the youth for not joining the nationwide protest.

“They didn’t protest because we are excellent. They encouraged us to do more. It’s a challenge for us as government officials to make sure we do more.

“Within this programme we are not giving opportunities to members of the State Executive Council, the Judiciary, the Chairmen of Local Governments and Coordinators, we want the youth to benefit from it.

“Make sure you demonstrate a spirit of ownership in the management of public services,” advised Nwifuru.
