Union Minister CR Paatil launches version 2.0 of ‘FloodWatch India’ app | Pragativadi

New Delhi:Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil today launched version 2.0 of the mobile application ‘FloodWatch India’ developed by the Central Water Commission (CWC) in New Delhi.

CWC launched the first version of the mobile application 17t August 2023 – use of mobile phones to provide the public with information on the flood situation in the country and flood forecasts for a period of up to 7 days in real time.

The previous version provided information on flood forecasts at 200 forecasting stations. Version 2.0 of the application provides up-to-date information on an additional 392 flood monitoring stations, bringing the total number of stations to 592, providing users with a comprehensive and detailed overview of flood conditions throughout the country. In addition, this version also provides additional information on the reservoir locations of 150 major reservoirs in the country, which will help in better understanding the possible flood situation in their downstream areas.

Developed in-house by the Central Water Commission, ‘FloodWatch India’ uses advanced technologies like satellite data analysis, mathematical modelling and real-time monitoring to provide accurate and timely flood forecasts. The user-friendly app presents all the information in 2 languages ​​– English and Hindi – and is available in easy-to-read and audio formats. The app also provides flood forecasts of the nearest location where users can check the flood situation at the station nearest to them on the home page itself.

FloodWatch India app is available for download on Android and iOS devices, providing wide access to users worldwide. Other distinguished guests including Secretary (Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Renewal) Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, Chairman (Central Water Commission) Shri Kushvinder Vohra and other senior officials of the Ministry of Jal Shakti and CWC also attended the ceremony.
