Jefferson County resident reaches out for help after several weeks of failed trash pick ups

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – An Amwaste customer called this week asking for help. Willie Mae White says it has been three weeks since her garbage was picked up. However now it seems like that pick up is a certainty.

Mrs. White says an Amwaste manager called her just hours after I left her home and told her that her trash would be taken care of and that she would be receiving a three-week credit.

She was of course overjoyed and it is easy to see why. Hundreds of maggots are now infesting the constantly loaded trash bins.

White says at one point she was placing the extra trash bags in her shed and the stench was overwhelming. It has been so long since the last trash pick up they fit 16 bags in the shed.

She said up until Tuesday her complaints had gone unheard but she file a request through the county website.

“This is what it looks like, and even worse. “This time I just decided, there was no way was I going to have this much trash left at my house for three more whole weeks,” said White.

To fill out a request yourself you can contact Amwaste through the My Jeffco app. Simply open the app, click on “requests,” create a new request, select “trash” as the type, share your address, and add a note about the issue.
