St. Clair Township Board Approves Fees for Police ID Software Update | News, Sports, Jobs

ST. CLAIR TWP. — Police Chairman Brian McKenzie informed the St. Clair Borough Board of Trustees during Monday’s meeting that the department will incur a $3,600 cost to upgrade its software to provide two-factor identification required by the LEADS program used by the department.

The update, which must be completed by Oct. 1, will require officers to use two different identification methods to log in — one is an access code and the other is a token that generates a number to enter within 30 seconds. The number will change after each use.

The $3,600 amount includes the update, an annual maintenance fee of $1,200, and the cost of 20 tokens.

McKenzie noted that two-factor authentication will help eliminate some of the hacking attacks that occur through disparate systems.

The roads authority intends to sell a 2010 Ford Expedition and a 2007 F350 dump truck that the municipality has deemed unnecessary.

Given the fair market value of both vehicles is $2,500 or less, they can be sold to a private buyer without having to put them up for auction.

Deborah Dawson, director of finance, noted that the council’s rules on funeral and bereavement leave needed updating and should include leave in the event of the death of a son-in-law and daughter-in-law.

The Trustees also introduced a resolution approving the renewal of OTRAMA insurance effective August 29, 2024, through August 29, 2025, for an amount of $51,035.55.

Trustees unanimously approved software updates, vehicle sales, policy amendments and insurance renewals.

Purchase orders totaling $65,412.50, a blanket certificate totaling $200, and bills totaling $54,589.13 were approved for payment.

Renovation work in the road department building will begin on September 16.

The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meets every other Monday at 4:00 p.m. in the Township Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for August 22.
