Judge says Google Play ‘could do better’ on faster antitrust fixes

A federal judge in California said he will order Alphabet Inc.’s Google to open an app store in the coming weeks and criticized the tech giant for not accepting a jury verdict that ruled the company has a monopoly on distributing and billing Android apps.

In December, the jury sided with the creator of the popular video game Fortnite and found that Google unlawfully abused its power over Android apps, which generated $14.66 billion in revenue for the tech company in 2020. U.S. District Judge James Donato in San Francisco is currently considering what policy changes Google must make to comply with federal antitrust law.
