Iraqi Airways renews contract with SITA to upgrade baggage and passenger processing systems

Iraqi Airways has renewed its partnership agreement with SITA, a leading provider of IT services to the air transport sector, to maintain its reputation for continuous innovation in passenger and baggage management systems, enhancing the travel experience on board Green Bird and its partner airlines.

Key to improving the travel experience will be the implementation of SITA’s Flex Hybrid system. It will speed up passenger processing at Baghdad and Basra airports by providing staff with fast and secure access to airline systems and applications via a cloud infrastructure that is highly flexible and scalable to meet changing demand.

Iraqi Airways will also enhance its baggage management capabilities with SITA Bag Manager Online, which offers advanced visibility into the journey of each bag. The solution tracks every bag loaded onto an aircraft, ULD or trolley, matching each bag to departing passengers, tracking them in real time at the airport and ensuring they are loaded onto the correct aircraft, offering peace of mind to passengers and allowing staff to focus on more complex tasks.

Finally, the SITA Information Display System will modernize airline flight display systems, providing a clear interface that will keep travelers updated with changing departure and arrival times.

Munaf Abdulmunem Ajel, CEO of Iraqi Airways, said: “Iraqi Airways is committed to implementing advanced solutions that will streamline daily operations, providing more efficient, reliable and safe services. This commitment guarantees our global leadership in the aviation sector. We also pledge to continue our efforts to develop exceptional services aimed at providing the highest level of comfort and improving the passenger experience across our global network. In addition, we are committed to implementing the latest innovations and systems that contribute to shaping the future of the industry.”

Hani El Asaad, SITA President, Middle East and Africa, said: “We are delighted to be working with Iraqi Airways, an industry leader known for its commitment to innovation and excellence. Data and connectivity remain the backbone of our industry, and ensuring fast, secure and reliable connections is key to optimizing airline operations and improving the passenger experience. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the evolution of air travel technology in the Middle East region, illustrating our commitment to transforming travel and transportation through cutting-edge solutions.”
