EU asks for comments on EUDI wallet rules

The European Commission has published five key documents on the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI) and is inviting contributions.

The five regulations implementing eIDAS include certification requirements, common protocols and interfaces for cross-border interoperability, basic functionalities and integrity guidelines for use in all EU Member States, a trust framework for the secure management of identity and identification data and credentials.

The four-week consultation period will end on 9 September 2024. The EC plans to adopt the recommendations in the fourth quarter of this year.

In March, the European Council officially adopted a basic framework for EU digital identity wallets.

In July, the EU announced a new call for proposals under its Digital Europe (DIGITAL) programme, allocating more than €108 million (around $117.5 million) to projects aimed at boosting the continent’s technological potential – including digital identity.
