‘Stree 2’ leads box office collection ahead of ‘Khel Khel Mein’, Vedaa

Mumbai (Maharashtra) (India), August 19 (ANI): Bollywood saw three major releases last week but it was ‘Stree 2’ that took the lead at the box office early on while ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and ‘Vedaa’ struggled to maintain their positions.

The Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao-starrer, which competed with Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa at the box office on August 15, quickly became the most popular film among moviegoers, far outpacing the other two.

On its first Sunday of release, the horror-comedy sequel grossed a whopping Rs 58.20 crore, taking its total collection to Rs 204 crore in just four days.

This huge success surprised trade analysts.

Taran Adarsh has described performing in the film as a “storm” or a “tsunami” that sweeps away everything in its path.

“Call it a STORM, TSUNAMI or TYPHON… Stree2 has a SENSATIONAL extended weekend… Two major Hindi films that released with it (KhelKhelMein, Vedaa) were badly affected by the Stree2 wave. Stree2 has achieved a DOUBLE CENTURY (200 cr NBOC) in just 4 days, something only a few Hindi giants have managed in the past… A HISTORICAL feat for a mid-sized film. Stree2 kicked the ball out of the stadium on Day 4 (Sun) creating INSIGHT, surpassing Day 1 (Thu) (IndependenceDay)… Just another proof that a well-made desi entertainer will always be accepted by the audience. Expect another big fat number today (partial RakshaBandhan). (Week 1) Wed Previews Rs 9.40 cr, Thu Rs 55.40 cr, Fri Rs 35.30 cr, Sat Rs 45.70 cr, Sun Rs 58.20 cr. Total: Rs 204 cr. India biz. The analyst said Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein” has earned Rs 11.05 crore till Saturday, while John Abraham’s “Vedaa” is lagging slightly behind.

Once the first week ends, all eyes will be on ‘Stree 2’ to see how far this box office giant goes. (ANI)
