Seattle police detectives are investigating a homicide at a flooded rowhouse in North Seattle’s Olympic Hills neighborhood. Court documents reveal disturbing details surrounding the death of Zoey He, a 25-year-old Hawaiian woman who was the girlfriend of suspect Andy Chu, who has admitted to possibly being responsible for her death.

  • What happened: On Aug. 10, police responded to a wellness check on Northeast 133rd Street where they found a bathtub full of water, running water and the victim lying on his back with a throat wound and an ice pack around his neck. Surveillance footage shows the couple entering the home the night before, but Chu was seen leaving alone the next morning. Neighbors discovered the woman’s body after noticing a water leak in the home just two days before her 26th birthday.

  • Suspect arrested: Chu was later arrested at the hospital after allegedly attacking a nurse. He was reportedly taken to the hospital by friends due to “psychotic behavior.” He later admitted to police that he was in a “crisis state” and recalled “choking (Zoey), snapping her neck, holding her underwater in the bathtub” before attempting to resuscitate her by “sprinkling her with Acai powder” and “putting a ball like a golf ball in her mouth to fix her jaw.” Chu also admitted to taking two doses of the drug Molly and expressed uncertainty about the reality of his memories. He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault and murder. Chu’s bail was set at $5 million, and his next court appearance was scheduled for August 28.
