ABC News Appoints Almin Karamehmedovic as President

Almin Karamehmedovic has been named president of ABC News.

Karamehmedovic oversaw production and day-to-day operations. World News Tonight with David Muir since August 2014. She takes over the role of president after Kim Goodwin announced her plans to retire in May. Debra O’Connell, president, News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment, has been running ABC News on an interim basis.

Since January 2022, Karamehmedovic has also overseen news content development, with his role expanded from executive producer to senior executive producer.

As president, Karamehmedovic will oversee the day-to-day operations of ABC News and lead the teams behind World News Tonight with David Muir, Good Morning America, The View, 20/20, Nightline, ABC News Live, ABC News Studios and reports from special events.

He joined ABC News as a freelance video editor based in London in 1998 and later became one of the first journalists to gain access to Tora Bora, Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden was hiding. In 2003, he joined the US military during the invasion of Iraq and in 2005 was one of the first journalists to travel to Darfur/Sudan to cover the genocide.

He has also covered the war in southern Lebanon and was one of the first to arrive in Haiti in 2010 after the devastating earthquake. He has returned to Al Anbar, Iraq, to ​​document the fight against ISIS and has traveled to the front lines in Afghanistan, as well as worked on pieces including interviews with Holocaust survivors 75 years later; traveled to Normandy with American war veterans; and to Madagascar to report on the children of climate change.

Karamehmedovic has traveled to over 100 countries and learned to film, produce, edit and broadcast from anywhere in the world. He is the recipient of a prestigious DuPont Award, as well as 16 Emmy Awards, nine Edward R. Murrow Awards, two Christopher Awards and a Peabody Award.

He graduated from the University of Greenwich in London.
