Discover How Founders and Investors Are Saving the Planet at TechCrunch Disrupt 2024

Until recently, saving the world didn’t usually involve making a profit. But as the climate warms, a number of startups and investors have emerged to square the circle by presenting a clear business plan to reduce humanity’s impact on the planet.

We are thrilled to have Rebecca Hu, Co-Founder and CEO of Glacier, Allison Wolff, Co-Founder and CEO of Vibrant Planet, and Hyuk-Jeen Suh, Co-Founder of VenX and General Partner at SkyRiver Ventures, will join us on the Builders Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2024, October 28-30 in San Francisco.

During a panel discussion titled “How Startups Can Save the World,” the investor and two founders will share their insights on starting climate-focused companies, including how they navigate new and complex markets, how their mission supports innovation and recruitment, and how they balance caring for the planet with profit.

Rebecca Hu co-founded Glacier to build a world without waste. Using AI to process tons of data from a suite of sensors, the company’s custom robots can sift through piles of waste to collect priority recyclables with greater accuracy and speed than manual collection. The goal is to help companies and governments improve their currently pathetic recycling rates.

For Allison Wolff, the wildfires that have swept across California in recent years left an indelible mark—and inspired her to co-found Vibrant Planet, a software and data startup that works to protect critical ecosystems. The company’s platform connects stakeholders from government, industry, nonprofits, and society to develop win-win strategies to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires, protect water and biodiversity, and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Hyuk-Jeen Suh spent years investing in deep tech, like most of his peers, finding founders, building ad hoc syndicates, and repeating the process for the next deal. A few years ago, he had an epiphany: Why weren’t investors working more closely together, leveraging economies of scale to find more and better deals? He and four other investors founded VenXa business cooperation center inspired by startup accelerators.
